RCB to retire these two jerseys to honor the legends who wore them

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), one of the most popular franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced that they will be retiring the jersey numbers of two legendary cricketers, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle. Both players have made significant contributions to the franchise over the years, and the decision to retire their jersey numbers is a fitting tribute to their outstanding performances.

Jersey “17” and “333” put to rest

The official Twitter handle of the Royal Challengers Bangalore tweeted last night, informing fans that they would put the two jerseys to rest in order to honor the two legends of the game. “Jersey numbers 17 and 333 will be retired forever as a tribute to @ABdeVilliers17 and @henrygayle , when we induct the legends of RCB into the Hall of Fame, at the #RCBUnbox presented by Walkers and Co.”, read the tweet

AB de Villiers wore jersey number 17 during his 11-season stint (2011-2021) with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The number 17 became synonymous with de Villiers, who is widely regarded as “Mr. 360” in the world of cricket.

During his time with RCB, AB de Villiers scored 4,491 runs in 156 matches at an impressive average of 39.95 and a strike rate of 151.23. He also scored three centuries and 33 half-centuries for the franchise.

On the other hand, Chris Gayle wore jersey number 333 during his seven-season stint (2011-2017) with RCB in the IPL. The number 333 became the most feared among opposing teams, as Gayle is known for his hard-hitting batting style and ability to score runs at a fast pace. During his time with RCB, Gayle scored 3,163 runs in 92 matches at an astonishing strike rate of 151.02.

The decision to retire the jersey numbers of de Villiers and Gayle is a testament to their contributions to RCB over the years. It is a great honor for two players who have become legends of the game and have given their all for the franchise.

RCB’s Hall of Fame

In addition to retiring the jersey numbers of de Villiers and Gayle, RCB will also be inducting both players into their Hall of Fame on March 26. The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors players who have made significant contributions to the franchise over the years.

The highly-esteemed Hall of Fame ceremony will take place at the RCB Unbox event on the scheduled date, creating a buzz among cricket enthusiasts. The ceremony is expected to be a grand affair, with notable guests from the cricketing world gracing the event with their presence.
